First I have to get someone to help me figure out why my sewing machine hates me (it isn't running properly for me but works fine when someone else borrows it)! I have a friend coming to look at it, and I think a robe just moved to the top of the list of things I am going to make!! Thanks! The links were definitely helpful. They have a lot of really great stuff(I LOVE the vampire shoes but I can't wear heels!) Holy Clothing has one long gown I adore in particular....there is a lot of wonderful stuff that has become available in the last few years. There are days I want to 'look' like a priestess-just for me-and at times I think the gods appreciate us making the extra effort. I know that many Pagans argue against clericals because they don;t want to be mistaken as Christian clergy, but actually, the color is only a uniform. A couple of my colleagues in the local clergy coalition-one who is a rabbi and the other a humanist-both choose to wear collars because they are immediately recognized as ministers not only in the hospital but the prison as well. You can still wear your usual wardrobe with some adjustment and the addition of a rabat, which is a dickey with an attached collar that fits under your other clothing. I have also altered some shirts to fit a clergy collar by either sewing down the tabs of a collared shirt to accept the( nasty, little)plastic tab, or removing the top of the collar and left the band remaining to attach the full clergy collar. Good luck!AmethJerahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09575410695782447489noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6786474119988979465.post-49572919849931493972012-02-10T17:53:31.381-05:002012-02-10T17:53:31.381-05:00I schlep around the house in jeans and over-sized ...I schlep around the house in jeans and over-sized men's shirts myself, LOL...I used to have a lot of hippie clothing and loved it because it was comfortable! Frankly, one of the reasons I have so much black clothing in my wardrobe is that when I was an Episcopal minister I worked full time at the diocesan office and he to be in 'uniform'.AmethJerahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09575410695782447489noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6786474119988979465.post-85739106538091088912012-02-10T17:45:06.065-05:002012-02-10T17:45:06.065-05:00@ Sandi- I understand about budgets: I haven't...@ Sandi- I understand about budgets: I haven't been gainfully employed for quite awhile because I'm waiting for disability. You have to choose your priorities. When I was in college, my first official ritual robe was made from a bed sheet I found at a white sale...it was $1.99 for the sheet and I already had the thread. It was comfortable and served it's purpose for many years. The fabric for the cape featured in this post was $3.99 a yard because I chose a poly/wool felt (the weave is a little looser than a poly/wool fabric, which was $12.99 a yard.) I have learned to cut corners...as you do. I think it's kinda fun to make your own ritual garb, because handling it gives you a strong creative connection. Single mother budgets don't allow for the fancy lol. The only time i have ever really felt a little awkward was at the PPD last year. I think i was the only vendor not dressed up :( Robes and a cute dress are at the top of my "One Day When the Kids Move Out" list!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6786474119988979465.post-78613206927091718542012-02-10T11:56:44.579-05:002012-02-10T11:56:44.579-05:00Brilliant! Great writing - I'm glad to have found you and your blog through the Pagan Blog Project.

This year, I have FINALLY decided to "dress the part" that's in my heart! I'm a fashion-failure (just ask my kids!) but I have chosen several pieces from The Pyramid Collection and can't wait for their arrival! I love my hippie clothing, which I wear as often as possible (even to work, on days when I feel the boss won't see me), but I do not think I have anything in my wardrobe which I would wear for Pagan purposes only. Would feel too much like "dress-up" and not enough like part of my life, I guess... (Okay, but I am a rebel, I am also not too fond of the idea of wedding dresses. ^^ )Diandrahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14570498251611083259noreply@blogger.com
